Radiological Safety Considerations

Radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis or therapy must only be administered in a hospital department that is licensed to handle unsealed radioactive sources. This is normally the Nuclear Medicine or Radiotherapy Department. A wide variety of radionuclides are currently in use, but before a new one is first used it may be necessary to obtain approval from a national or local legislative body. The same general precautions apply to handling MYOVIEW in these units as applies to handling other radiopharmaceuticals. For example, the user should wear waterproof gloves and use shielding at all times when handling the reconstituted vial or syringes containing the radioactive agent. Specific information about decay of technetium Tc-99m-tetrofosmin is provided in MYOVIEW prescribing information.
